This is a generic 2-hour course to train and help your Non-DOT supervisors make a reasonable suspicion determination if your policy allows for reasonable suspicion drug and/or alcohol testing. This course also complies with the mandatory supervisor and manager training that is required by DOT/FMCSA § 382.603 Training for supervisors. of commercial drivers (CDL). We recommend you use the same standards and procedures when making a reasonable suspicion determination when testing your other (Non-DOT) employees. So, this course is appropriate for training supervisors of employees in DOT-covered safety-sensitive positions and supervisors of non-safety-sensitive employees.
The responsibility to provide a safe workplace and the potential liability from negligent hiring and retention requires that employers be aware of and take steps to control work-related substance abuse.
The components of a drug-free workplace program, especially drug testing of employees, may raise legal issues with a risk of legal liability if conducted improperly or in violation of federal, state, or local laws.
