FMCSA: Owner-Operator
Who Must Comply with Federal CFR 49.40 DOT Drug Testing Regulations?
Carries Hazardous Materials Which Require a Safety Placard

What makes an CDL driver an Owner/Operator vs. an employee?
- Are you a stand alone business transporting either materials or carrying passengers as a CDL Driver under contract to a motor carrier?
- Do you lease your vehicle or services to a Motor Carrier rather than being a direct employee of the Motor Carrier?
- Owner/Operators are free to contract with more than one carrier and free to schedule their own time to accept loads.
