Drug Free Business’s MROs are aware of and adhere to all other sections of 49 CFR, Part 40 pertaining to the role of the MRO or the drug test verification process and all state requirements and regulations in reviewing drug testing results. This includes reporting positive DOT testing results directly to the state Department of Licensing where still required and to the new FMCSA Clearinghouse.  Drug Free Business follows the DOT MRO Review guidelines during both federal and non-federal testing. The Medical Review Officer acts as an impartial and independent “gatekeeper” and advocate for the accuracy and integrity of the drug testing process and will provide quality assurance reviews for the drug testing process for the specimens under his/her purview. View and download the Medical Review Officer Guidance Manual (Revised 2018) to better understand this important process.

It has been our experience that most urine specimens collected today are delivered to the laboratory either the same night, or after midnight, or early the next morning. The laboratories work a “graveyard” shift to accommodate these specimen deliveries. For most of your drug testing, you can expect an overnight turnaround on test results.

Drug Free Business MRO Services receives drug test results from our designated laboratories electronically in batches throughout the day and night as soon as the results are signed by each laboratory’s Certifying Scientist and released. Typically, the bulk are received between midnight and 6:00 a.m. weekdays. But results are released 24/7 in most cases. MRO processing is organized and tracked using our proprietary GERTRD software system 24/7.

Early each morning including weekends, our MRO staff will first review the negative (passed) tests and report these results to your DER (designated employer representatives) ASAP, usually that morning.  As results are released an email is sent to the DER with a notification that test results are ready to view – the email contains a link to the secure site to view tests and print results if needed.

Positive test results may be delayed of course, because the donor may not respond to the MRO’s attempts to contact. In those cases, we will enlist the assistance of the designated employer representative as described in the MRO Procedures section. Also, your staff may initiate a trace query at any time with our MRO Services and we will track down the missing test. Sometimes we find that your applicant never showed up at the collection site.
